Voter Identification Measure Passes Missouri House

May 6, 2011

News On The Net

A recently passed bill in the Missouri House, would require anyone wanting to cast  a ballot in an election, to present a state or federal issued form of identification to do so.  Supporters of the measure, say there are instances of voter fraud taking place in Missouri and that the issue needs to be addressed.

“People who come to the polling place present a utility bill or other forms of identification that aren’t reliable,” said Diehl, R-Town and Country. “I believe there is voter fraud in our state.”

Those against the bill, say it is voter intimidation and is actually encouraging people not to vote.

“That is voter intimidation at its worst, and I find it disgusting,” said Rep. Stacey Newman, D-St. Louis. “This does absolutely nothing to curtail any kind of voter registration fraud.”

Now, I do find the timing of this very ironic, since we now have 6-2 Congressional representation in this state.  I guess that is the Republican mantra however.  Don’t work hard to get your vote, just make it hard for you to vote.  I am actually surprised they are not asking for a long form birth certificate.

Shhhhhhh!  Don’t give them any ideas.
