Missouri Republicans Flailing Away With Mamtek

September 20, 2011

Opinion

You know, as if the news of 600 new good paying  jobs not coming to my community, after a year of speculation they were, is not bad enough, now I have to come home everyday and read the Missouri Republican Party’s knee jerk blame game and lies.  The fact they are flailing away, trying to place the blame on this situation on governor Jay Nixon is laughable, if it wasn’t so maddening and irresponsible on their behalf.  Yes, I know, I am talking about the Republican Party, and responsible and Republican shouldn’t go in the same sentence together.  And rarely do, might I add.

I am not even going to try to wrap my head around the Mamtek debacle because truth be told, it is a damn mess.  And it is a damn mess that has a lot of blame to go around.  First off, if anyone should be hair on fire upset, it is the people of my community and the fact they were not allowed to ask any questions about this project and if they did, they were told it would be in their best interest to let it go.  Add in the fact our city developers would apparently buy canoes in the middle of the desert, and you have a situation where people should be lining the streets with pitch forks and torches.  Yeah, people should be that mad.

Now, for the past week, we have got this:

So, judging by their Tweets, the Missouri Republican Party are the type of people to watch your house burn to the ground to ash and charred remains, and then after the last flame squeezes out, they run to grab a Dixie Cup of water, fly back to the scene, dump it and do victory laps around the poor remains of the house, all while patting themselves on the back.

Yeah.  The house is still burnt to the ground.  What exactly did you do to help again?

As I said before, the fact they are breaking their own necks to pin blame on the governor is laughable.  The fact of the matter is, no money from the state has been spent on this project.  None.  Nothing.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.  You get my point.

According to today’s Columbia Daily Tribune article:

Because it never started operations, no state money has been given to the project.

Apparently, state Republicans are oblivious to this type of, you know, facts.  This article was published around noon today.  Two hours later, the Missouri Republican Party via Twitter, is still saying the governor lost millions on this project.  No.  He didn’t.

I kindly asked the state Republican Party via Twitter, why we hadn’t heard anything about the situation from Senator Kurt Shaefer and Representative Randy Asbury, both Republicans.  As of yet, I haven’t received a response.  And nor am I expecting one.

However, a quick Google search did turn up something very interesting.  A press release about Mamtek, Moberly, and the people who made all this possible.  Other than quoting the governor doing what he should be doing, praising the arrival of new manufacturing jobs in our community, the press release mentions nothing of governor Nixon and his influence or hand in making this happen.  On Page 5, 3rd paragraph, the press release goes out of its way to thank a few people and hardly a one of them has a (D) next to his name.  See below:

I guess the Missouri Republican Party must have missed this.  I can see why.  It’s that whole selective facts thing again.  Funny how that shows up from time to time.

I however am going to suggest that the next time the Missouri Republican Party wants to devote a week of Tweets and blogs to placing blame on an issue, pretty much everywhere except where it probably should be placed, they throw this post into their Rolodex in the back of their mind.  And I would also appreciate it, that if they decide to devote so much energy to our town, they at least have a small clue of what they are talking about, instead of flailing wildly about and behaving like five-year olds that ate too much sugar.

It scares the bejesus out of me that these people try to win elections and power over all of us.
